SOMETIMES, A CHANGE OF SCENERY AND A STUDY IN CONTRASTS IS ALL THAT’S NEEDED TO SWING CHANGE INTO MOTION. WESTWING FOUNDER AND CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER DELIA LACHANCE REFLECTS ON THE TEXTURES, TIMINGS, AND TRAVEL THAT NURTURE HER RELATIONSHIP WITH DESIGN THROUGH LIFE’S TRANSITIONS

Inspiration for me always starts with real life: moments, moods, and emotions. I’m deeply inspired by nature, light, and the atmosphere of beautiful spaces. Sometimes it’s a walk by the ocean, sometimes it’s a page in a design book or an interior magazine, and often it’s fashion. I love observing how people live, how they create harmony between functionality and beauty. In the end, good design is always emotional. It’s about how a space makes you feel.

Travel has always been a huge source of inspiration for me, but also the people and homes I’ve encountered along the way. Living in Portugal has taught me to appreciate slower rhythms and natural beauty, the play of sunlight, the texture of linen, the imperfect charm of handmade objects. At the same time, my German roots keep me drawn to functionality and structure. That mix of ease and intention is something I carry into everything I do, both in life and in design.

Right now, I’m drawn to the idea of quiet luxury. Spaces that feel calm, layered, and deeply personal.I love this return to natural materials and warm, earthy tones that create a sense of comfort and grounding. I’m also inspired by the growing movement towards intentional living: choosing less, but better. Design that feels meaningful and stands the test of time.

It’s always the personal pieces, the ones that tell a story. A marble piece you found on a trip, a vintage lamp, a linen tablecloth you bring out every Sunday… These are the details that add soul to a space. And of course, scent and light — a candle, the glow of a lamp, they create that feeling of calm and belonging that turns a house into a home.

Transitions are such a beautiful part of life. They remind us that nothing is static, that everything evolves. Personally, becoming a mother changed the way I see home completely. I now think even more about comfort, about creating spaces that feel nurturing and real. I also love the transitions of the seasons: the way the light shifts, the textures we crave change. All of that inspires me to design in a way that feels organic and in tune with life itself.
